Times for Sat April 6th Tourny

April 1, 2013

Here is the rough schedule for this saturdays tournament.

Please keep in mind, this is not a hard schedule as there are many factors that decide if we start on time, such as people registering late.  This is the earliest we will be starting the divisions and our goal is of course to stay as close to the schedule as possible.

9:00 am Children’s Game – ages 7 and under

9:30am Children age 8-9, 10-12 and 13-15 No Gi (Starting with lightest going to heaviest)

There will be a recreational Division in the No Gi to offer those that are newer to BJJ a chance to compete without getting run over and a competitive No Gi division for those that have lots of BJJ experience or have competed lots.  Recreational No Gi competitors are a double elimination bracket.

Submission Series Children

Another BJJ tournament at Arashi Do Martial Arts, another great turnout.  55 children showed up to compete and 47 adults, a fantastic turnout for a club event. We are using this tournament and the one April 6 (held at Arashi Do North) to see what the actual weight difference and interests are for the Children divsion and the Recreational Adult Division. If we get enough competitors in each division, we will add more at the larger events like the Mind Body Soul.  Our oragnizers are reviewing the stats now to make sure the next event is fair yet challenging. We are planning to even at an executive division for those 35 and older (if there are 6 or more I’ll do 40 and over). So these tournaments are a great chance to get some practice and let your voice be heard. Thanks to all that competed and see you at the Capital City Championship Mar 23 and back here April 6.

Why Children and Adults Should Compete

February 28, 2013

Arashi Do ChokeSome things we learn in life only through challenges presented to us, we are a product of our environment.  Therefore we must leave our comfort zone from time to time to grow in character.  Martial Arts tournaments afford us the opportunity to challenge ourselves and realize our potential.

By attending our tournaments children and adults alike will be able to:

  • A: Demonstrate their Martial Arts Defensive moves in a Simulated Self Defence scenario.

  • B: Learn to perform their skills under pressure and external stimuli (people yelling), developing Courage and Concentration.

  • C: Have a goal to keep them motivated and to learn how to properly prepare themselves for a challenge

  • D: Meet like-minded people aspiring to achieve similar individual goals, acquiring life long friends along the way.

  • D: Prepare for larger events or use this event as a stepping stone for Professional events.

  • E: An opportunity to learn from the experience, wether it is a loss or a win.

  • F: to strengthen the bond between Student/Instructor or amongst Teammates.

  • G: to see what other schools are working on and to develop long term plans.

Your next tournament is in:

Edmonton Mar 2 at the Arashi Do North School
